We stopped in for lunch on Saturday, March 3rd and enjoyed a pleasant meal. Food was hot, portion size was adequate but sushi was very small and mushy textured. The restaurant was fairly busy but there were lots of empty tables. Once our food arrived we were left pretty much alone and not asked if we wanted tea or our drinks refilled. When the bill was brought to the table my husband said he would pay by debit and was waved over to the debit machine. As our guest and I put our coats on we were asked by a frantic looking waitress to please not leave yet. I asked if there was a problem and she just said, don't leave, don't leave. I looked for my husband who was standing watching the sushi chefs work which he had done since he had paid the bill. I called to him, he came to our table and I told him we were asked not to leave. He went to the lady where he had paid and asked her if there was a problem. She said that the transaction went through fine but that she saw he had not put a tip on the bill. He told her that we always leave a cash tip on the table. She said it should be on the debit bill, not on the table. He said he would leave it at the table and walked away. We leave a cash tip because we are aware that sometimes waitstaff do not receive tips that are generated from debit or credit purchases at the time of their shifts and because it is a great way to dispose of toonies and loonies. Several other patrons in the restaurant were watching us with great interest trying to figure out why we were being detained, it was very very embarassing. We left a paltry $2 instead of the $6 we had planned to tip as we were so put off by this experience. A tip is a "reward" for good service. We sat down, ordered directly from a menu, did not ask for anything extra or cause any fuss or disturbance that would have qualified a waitress for a larger tip. That experience totally put us off of this restaurant and we won't be back.
We were weekly visitors over 6 years ago when the owners cared about the quality of food. They changed owners several years ago and we had dinner for a party of 16 while under the new ownership. The portions were much smaller and thinner while the fish was not fresh. Being so close to home we elected not to go back until recently. About a month ago we had dinner there again and just as before the quality was lousy and the sushimi portions small. We decided we would never go back to this restaurant,
Visited with My wife and 2 kids. Sushi was very good, so was service even though it was busy.
The sushi is adequate at best. Mississauga has little choice for Sushi so I've given Sushi Tei a try several times. The price is higher than I am used to paying for sushi and the quality isn't there. Definitely avoid the spider roll, it's always horrible, however the double dynamite roll can be a treat.
there is nothing special about this restaurant, i rather drive up to markham/scarborough for more variety and better authentic japanese food. This is okay, considering there are not many sushi restaurants in mississauga. But compared to toronto, or markham/scarborough, i cant say this is good
