Server was incredibly rude!!! Even the Manager was rude! My advice stay away. Many other restaurants offer fine Italian food and treat their customers kindly.
Ennio's never fails to please! Last night we were in a bit of a rush as we had concert tickets. Explained to our waitress who speeded up the process by getting us our invoice very quickly. (Thank-you) The speeded up process did not make us feel rushed. We feel like family at Ennio's and the food is fresh, fantastic and friendly! Thank-you Ennio & Rosa and family!
I've been hearing a lot this past year than Ennio's is one of the better places to eat in K-W. If you wanted real, simple Italian food, this was the place to go. Judging by the large amount of people eating at their Kitchener location this Friday night, what I have been hearing was correct. We decided to give it a try, seeing that we were in the area. We arrived around 7pm, and when we opened the door we were hit with a wall of sound. The place was packed. We were told that we would have a 45 minute wait for a table, which was fine. The inside of the restaurant is very warm. Lots of dark red, burnt orange and brown. Most restaurants these days seem to have a minimalist approach to design, Ennio's uses every space available. We were taken to our table in the bar area, and our drinks arrived within a minute. Two Shirley Temples. For our starters, we ordered Bruschetta, and off the specials menu, Pork Belly on Crostini with Chipotle Mayo. As I said above, the restaurant was very busy, so we had to wait a while for our food, but that didn't bother us. The Bruschetta was amazing. Fresh out of the oven, topped with lots of tomato, basil & mozzarella. No question, the best I've had. Better than most pizza to be honest. As I write this, I am noticing a big food trend with Pork Belly. I see it on television being prepared lately, and several restaurants I've dined at this year have offered a Pork Belly dish. I understand why, it is a delicious and affordable cut of pork. Their belly dish was good, but not great. The pork when ate alone, tasted wonderful. The crostini was also very fresh and soft. The Chipotle mayo just didn't blend well with the belly. It didn't taste bad, but a mayonnaise wasn't the best choice to top the pork. For our main courses, I went simple with Spaghetti & Meatballs, my guest with White Wine & Garlic Mussels. The Mussels were not very good. My guest loves mussels, orders them often in restaurants, but she was dead against these. She claimed the broth tasted like water, and the taste of the seafood was completely gone. She ate 6 quickly, then I noticed she slowed down and was pretty much finished with them. I tried one, and although the texture was very soft, the taste was bad. Mussels aren't for everyone obviously, but the taste was just off. The plating looked great, but my guest did not enjoy them. She was also given no bread with the dish. Nothing to dip into the broth. Just mussels. On a more positive note, my Spaghetti & Meatballs were fantastic. The pasta cooked al-dente, a beautiful tomato sauce, and the meatballs were great. The meatballs were very strong, lots of good flavor inside. The best Spaghetti & Meatballs I've had. I wanted to order Tiramisu, but my stomach was saying no. So I passed on dessert. The friendly waitress was quick at taking our empty plates away when finished, and kept her eye on us the entire time. It was a good meal, with the exception to the Mussels. We enjoyed everything but. I would like to return and try some other items off their menu, because I am sure they would be delicious. The place was alive, with couples on dates, families, and groups of friends. No doubt, a hot spot in Kitchener right now. For the most part, we enjoyed our meal, and the atmosphere of the restaurant.
Went for MIL's Bday and she is tough to impress and yet she was. She often doesn't finish her meal and ate the whole lugini and even ordered cheesecake as well! Husband had pizza and hurt himself eating it all (to be fair he also had 3 pieces of bread). My kids both had children's pizza which was a great price ($7 for pizza and drink and ice cream!). I had gnoccis and it was wonderful! I also had the most decadent chocolate cake afterwards that I didn't mind sharing with the kids as it was too much (and I am not a light eater). So rich I wish I had ordered milk! I will happily go again but will make sure the kids have something more then just crayons and a picture as the food took a bit long to make but it was worth it. 3 adults, 2 kids with full meals, apps, desserts and drinks (no alcohol) = $85.
I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend for dinner. The service was quick and we had a very friendly waitress. The decor was also very nice. The food? I ordered the alfredo. The portion was generous but I didn't enjoy it very much. I could've easily cooked the same meal with a jar of alfredo sauce, some dried bacon bits, and pasta from the food basics right across the street for 1/4 of the price I paid here.
Found this restaurant by accident while hunting for a sushi place. So glad we ended up here! Our waitress was fast, friendly, and accurate. The food was PERFECT! I actually felt like I was eating at home in Italy. Tiramisu tasted exactly like the home made kind I remember my aunt and uncle having at family gatherings. I only wish I lived closer so I could eat there more often.
I have to say that although the food was okay and I mean just 'okay', but even if it was incredible, I wouldn't go back because the service was so horrible. I'm pretty sure I was reprimanded for questioning the bottle of wine that was brought to the table when it was the wrong one. So I drank wine I didn't order and I'm sure it was more expensive than the one I did order. And it went down from there.
I love Italian food. I should start off with that. I grew up with it, I cook it, I read about it. Ennio's is the kind of place that I go to when I have a hankering for a good, old-fashioned North-American Italian meal that reminds me of my grandfather's home cooking. I took my family here for my birthday this year, and they raved about it. My father gave a rare thumbs up, my hungry brother devoured everything, and his picky non-Italian girlfriend was quite happy. My Italian mother and I were in our glory: chatting with the wonderful (if slightly forgetful) co-owner and getting our Italian groove on. It all comes down to their variety of sauces, which are always fresh and flavourful. The mushroom rigatoni is to die for. Yes, the salads are bare-bones, but remind me so much of my grandfather's also very simple house salads. I'm super picky when it comes to dressings, and this is one of the few restaurant vinaigrettes that I'll happily eat. The pazzo bread is deep-fried deliciousness. And the specials... oh, the specials! My partner and I have signed up for their taste-testing sessions and have been to a few: this is a chef that is genuinely interested in trying new things, without going overboard. He sticks with authentic flavours, and I'm always very happy to try whatever is recommended. It's a comfortable restaurant, simply put. The kind of place that I go to when I want a reminder of my north end Hamilton heritage; good, hearty and simple. The photos on the wall are wonderful -- real family photos, from the 'old country' and the 'new one'. You can even recognize some of the faces just by looking around the staff. My favourites: Con Fungi, Gnocchi, Tiramisu
I could not disagree more with the previous review. I have eaten in all 10 provinces, all 50 states and 27 other countries. Over the last 8 years we have found Ennio's to be consistently among the best casual Italian restaurants anywhere. It is like dining with family. Good food, good wine and nice people.
We arrived after 8:30 on a weeknight for a late dinner for two. A number of other parties were relaxing over after-dinner drinks or dessert. We were greeted warmly as usual and shown to our table. The owners have done an excellent job with the interior decorating at the new location on Fairway, creating a semi-open but warm atmosphere. The food is authentic Italian cuisine and the menu provides plenty of variety so you will keep coming back. Wine list is not extensive, but the choices are good. Highly recommended.
This place is incredible, the food the service the atmosphere, all around great experience. We were greeted by an adorable hostess who was nothing but smiles the whole night as she was in clear view of our table! The server was so very accommodating as we are quite particular about dining out, she sensed this and rose to the challenge. I must say this was the best lasagna i've ever eaten. despite what some of these reviews say this place is fantastic and all should give them a shot. I understand they have been in business for almost 15 years they must be doing something right! Enjoy
Food was very low quality all around! Ravioli was filled with processed meat, linguini alfredo was $12.00, no meat or veggies. Never offered any parm cheese, pepper, etc. Service was OK, but I returned my ravioli because the sauce was SOOO salty....(and no I am not very picky) the server had rinsed it off and put the new sauce on. Portions small and WAY over priced!!!! Cheapest chicken dish on the menu is $18.00 The Chef-BoyRD can ravioli is just as good (or bad)!! Normally I would give a place a 2nd chance, but since ALL 5 dishes were bad (low quality), I won't!
I used to think of Ennio's as my favourite place to eat in K-W but the new location is nothing as to what I expected. The pasta was not fresh or cooked properly. The ingredients were not fresh. The service was excellent. It's just too bad that the food no longer exceeds out expectations.
