Sandro Battaglia had his father custom tailor his first suit at the tender age of five.
“It was your typical early-eighties off-white suit with the matching cream shirt and a brown bow tie,” recounts the Battaglia & Aly tailor with a grin. “It’s crazy. Even way back then I knew what I wanted.”
Wearing a handmade Thomas Mason checkered shirt tucked under a Vitale Barberis herringbone windowpane vest, it’s clear the once meticulous protégé hasn’t lost his attention to detail.
From their dapper custom tailor shop on St. Laurent, Sandro and his business partner Maxën Aly offer fine handmade suits ― each carefully chosen, measured, sewn and fitted in-house to match the unique personality of its owner. But Battaglia & Aly offers more than simply quality pants, shirts and jackets, they also provide a custom-tailored experience from two of the smartest dressers in the neighbourhood.
“I like to deal with every client one on one and approach each project as its own piece of art,” Sandro explains. “There’s no way either of us would ever make someone leave the shop with a garment that doesn’t fit just right.”
