This is the second time we ordered from Silver Star and we were not disappointed. We ordered the dinner for 4 B.
We used to order from here many years ago but then my friend said to try another Chinese restaurant. Well our regular place is closed due to Covid so we decided to try Silver Star and I must say I will continue to order our food from here. The food is super fresh and very tasty. I have never in my life written a review but this felt so necessary... Silver Star is absolutely disgusting! When I called to order the man was yelling in my ear... When we went to pick up our food the place was absolutely filthy. Not only was it pretty pricey for terrible food (which I will get to in a moment) but then I was charged for using my debit too! As for the food, it was terrible. The comment below about tasting the msg is entirely true. The food tastes like it has been bathing in a bucket of grease! I have never had greasy rice until tonight.... So disappointed and such a waste of money! Never, ever again! Save yourselves the time and money!
Ordered a few different dishes for delivery from silver star last night. They were all so greasy and salty they were borderline inedible. The General Tso's chicken was soggy and dry, the only thing I could taste in the satay beef was the msg, and the shanghai noodles were so greasy I might have well just chugged a gallon of canola oil. Absolutely disgusting, do not waste your time or money (delivery took over an hour). I'm still thirsty the next day from all the MSG. What a waste.
I am always surprised at how much food we get for the price! The food is always fresh, and so hot when we get it home that we can barely open it! We can always eat all our favourites without feeling too full or hungry later. We'll be back, again and again!
Silver Star is always delicious! They have the best wonton soup, fantastic chicken balls and I have always been really happy with everything else we ordered.
The price is reasonable and the food is always HOT and very fresh.

Was passing by and stopped by for a takeout order. Very friendly service, very quick prep time.
They add MSG to their cooking and you need to ask them not to if you're allergic to it.
They forgot to put the chicken in the Cantonese Chicken Chow Mein.
The food was tasteless and a little dry. The chicken balls were tasty but fell apart immediately, made quite a mess with the breading falling into pieces.
Beef & Broccoli was good & tender, but again no taste, maybe they depend too much on the MSG to flavour their food.
Spring Rolls were tasty, however they didn't mention in the menu that they had meat and they did contain it, we are not sure what the meat was.
Would not order from here again, there are so many restaurants around that offer much better tasting food without the use of MSG.
I've tried many different restaurants for chinese food and when we compare the value, taste, speed... other restaurants cannot even compare with these guys. The amount of meat and vegetables per dish is much more then other chinese food restaurants that I've been to.
We ordered one of their Special dinner for 4's and there was enough food for me and my wife for 3 meals. The eggrolls were fresh and crispy and the chicken balls had large chunks of chicken in them! The cantonese noodles alone could feed my wife for the whole day. The whole meal was prepared in less then 10 minutes! I think I've found my new favourite chinese food restaurant... I'm so glad I listened to my friends when they suggested this place. Keep up the good work!
I've tried chinese food at lots of restaurants before, and I mean LOTS but this is by far the best take out place ever! Their portions are very big and the food tastes great, very consistent. Pretty much everything on the menu is good. My personal favorite is the deep fried chicken wings! If you've never had it before, please go and order it now! You have to rip open the paper bag on the spot and try these fresh, they are AMAZING! same with the egg rolls. Haven't tried everything on the menu yet but I'm pretty sure that you won't be disappointed ordering there.
I've been eating here since I was a kid and still love it. Moved away for a while and was glad to see they are still there.
Don't expect this hole in the wall to be the prettiest place on earth. But the food is very good and I have never been sick, so the kitchen must be clean. Delivery is always on time.
This is the best food value in Whitby. Everything seems to be made from scratch including the chicken balls (they actually have chicken in them). I can feed a family of 6 on a 'dinner for 4' menu. Service is fast.
Best Chinese food I have ever had up to date. Chicken balls, Springs rolls, Vegetables/Broccoli and beef, Lo-mien noodles, Chicken fried rice, Lemon chicken I would give 10/10. Pickup is ready in 5 minutes. Orders arrive in 10-20 minutes. If you haven't tried this place and you eat Chinese in Durham don't wait any longer!

For full family meals it is excellent food, and quick service (call ahead and its usually ready in 15 mins, or delivered within 20-30).
