Oh come on Jane, lighten up. This is a place to review one's meal, not criticize another patron's take on a meal or, worse yet, run interference for a restaurant. There are paid hacks to do that sort of thing. I was also at the Lake House Jan. 13 and had the same meal as Jordanair and his take on the meal has a lot more verisimilitude than your own review. Where do you get off calling his review "unfair"? As a long time patron of the Lake House I was always delighted to go there and have invited many friends to dine there. To say the place is not up to it's old standards is based entirely on my past two regretable experiences there. Jordanair's comments regarding the waitress were spot on having been interrupted more than once by her. When one dines at a restaurant of any class staff should realize they are there for the customer not the other way around. And if you, Jane, as a customer and diner are willing "to die for" a piece of cheese, that is your choice and perspective on life, but please keep it out of a so-called restaurant review.
I am a frequent reader of the reviews on Restaurantica as i base a lot of my decision on where i dine on the reviews of others, and this is the first time i have written one. I only felt the need to because of the unfair review made by the previous person, and to think that we dined on the same day. I have been to the Lakehouse a number of times, and it always seems to be a more pleaserable place to dine with every visit. The baked brie was absolutely to die for, followed by a very generous portion of Certified Angus Prime Rib. When i asked our server the size of the prime rib, she said it is usually around 12 ounces. When it arrived at the table i was pleasently surprised to see that the cut was at least 16-20 ounces. And the creme brulee was perfect. I consider myself to be a creme brulee connoisseur as I try it everywhere that i dine, and this was by far the most appetizing of them all. And as a long time customer of the Lakehouse i must say, they have been spot on in every aspect every time i dined with them. Not every restaurant is perfect 100% of the time, and i'm sure the person who reviewed before me did not enjoy their brunch, but from my experience and from all my friends, i have heard nothing but good about the Lakehouse. Cheers to the Chef, keep up the good work!
Omigosh (to quote another reviewer). How a restaurant can change overnight! Living in Jordan we have eaten at this restaurant quite a number of times. One of our favourite times is to go for weekend brunch - usually with friends. In the past this was well worth it. Good food, friendly service. Now - don't bother. The menu is NOT a real brunch menu but simply the every day lunch menu with a few specials thrown in. The result: The bread (four croisants and some baguettes) were cold (they were supposed to be warm - so why not warm them up before putting them on the table?); the eggs benedict were runny and the sauce nondescript; the omelettes - which were supposedly the "special of the day" - were simply awful: flatened, dried out, folded over in half much too late, and fried with some undistinguished contents. They tasted like paper. Com'on folks, how can you screw up an omelette? And what is with the toast? Two slices almost untoasted and two slices very dark. (Nothing else on the plate, by the way, to liven up this meagre offering at almost $9.00.) Only the wine (no thanks to the Lake House), mussels and the steak/frites were worth the bother. Other quirks: When a second basket of croisants was requested, back came no croisants but slightly warm cut up slices from a baguette in various odd sizes - the obviously unused remains from other tables. No thank you. The waiter was nice - but a bit overeager, interrupting our conversation a number of times. She has yet to realize that her question about "how is everything?", is not that important to disrupt a conversation. The final peculiarity was three or four people at the entrance saying goodbye. Com'on folks lets not overdo it to the point it all seems fake. All in all, a restaurant that seems to have had its moment in the sun - obviously a new chef from the one from England we met a number of months ago - with disappointing results not worth the expense nor the effort. There are better places in the area for the same money.
Got there on time for a 7:30 reservation and were told that our reservaton was 8:30. When inquiring as to the error were told we must have been mistaken, that they don't take 7:30 reservations. We assured them we had reserved for 7:30. As we were waiting and discussing whether to wait or go somewhere else a person identifying himself as the manager or owner appeared, accused one of our party of threatening him, when one of our party asked about compensation for our inconvenience he pulled a bill from his pocket and said "here's five bucks..." he then proceeded basically to throw us out. We've eaten there before and it was a positive experience. Sadly we woun't be doing so again.
Okay, maybe it's the wine talking but OMG our meal was fantastic. We've been several times for lunch but this is the first time for dinner. Everything was excellent and for a Monday night it had a really good crowd. The sides that went with the chicken and steak almost outshone the meat, almost. Hearty portions. No salad though, you'd have to pay for that extra. But a big basket of bread so can't complain too much.
