Although being fortunate to travel and experience food worldwide, I love coming home to return to one of the best little places in the area. Melanie and Domenic whom I have had the pleasure of knowing for two years, have done a great job in creating a lovely atmosphere with an excellent kitchen and serving staff. The superb food is truly complemented by the personal service given, especially in these hurried times we live in. Denise and gabe
**CONSUMERS BE AWARE!!!** My experiences at Il Postino was abolustely HORRIBLE! I hosted a party for 24 people last year (2006) and not one person was pleased with the experience at this restaurant. As soon as my party of 24 sat down, the waiter serving my table started to immediately pour 'water' into our glasses without asking whether this was indeed what we wanted. We later found out that what they were pouring us were spring water that they were charging $6/bottle for. It was certainly unbelievable as none from my party had ordered this! During the meal, a small group of us decided to order ONE bottle of wine for the special occasion, but later found out that that Il Postino opened FIVE bottles even though we only ordered ONE! When we got our bill at the end of the night, the total came to almost $2000!!!!! Il Postino's owner told waiters to keep opening bottles of wine (5 bottles in total) and water (30 bottles in total) until we discover their sly ways of trying to maximize their profits on our party. Towards the end of the night, I asked the waiter to separate our food and drinks bill into two so it's easier for my party to work out the figures, but the waiter was extremely rude and refused. We also asked if we can play the amount on 4 separate credit cards to cover the total, but was once again refused rudely by the waiter!!! When I passed by the cash to the washroom, I overheard the waiter insulting our requests! What type of restaurant does this?! I was so upset with my experience that I decided to sort this out with the owner of the restaurant. Not only was she UNAPOLOGETIC, she insisted that it was my party’s fault that we kept on drinking their water and that we didn’t stop them from opening wine!!! First of all, it was everyone’s first time at the restaurant, and nobody thought twice about the water that waiters were pouring into our glasses, especially when it was poured without consent. Secondly, the waiters never opened any beverages in our party room, so we didn’t notice what the waiters were doing in the back! Thirdly, because this was a party of 24 and everyone was more concentrated on catching up with friends and having a good time, nobody really noticed the sly acts of the restaurants. All in all, my experiences were horrible at Il Postino’s and I strongly advise all of you to AVOID this restaurant if you want to protect your wallet. Thanks.
From the moment we walked in we knew it was a happening place. We were welcomed and sat down in the patio. It was a great evening. We all enjoyed the appetizers, the calamari were grilled perfectly tender and the baked brie was incredible with the blueberry. The rack of lamb was cooked just right, apparantly it is their signature dish and our guest said that the beef tenderloin was juicy and cooked just right. I really enjoyed the seafood linquine, it had just a nice variety of seafood and the pasta was cooked just the way I liked it al dente! We had no dessert because we were full! The best part is that it is family owned and the owners came around constantly to see if we were having a good time.We love it and we will be back!
Lamb was overcooked and too small for what we paid. The calamary and shrimps were tough and tasteless.Very slow, and inexperienced service.
We asked the server to prepare a platter that she thought we would enjoy and it was amazing and plenty of it. We were worried there would be no room for our dinner. The lamb was grilled to perfection and our guests did not want any sauces on it and the sea bass was so fresh and delicious. I enjoyed my grilled salmon which I had plain with just a little lemon. The deserts were great. They told us that they are prepared in house. We also had a bottle of amarone luigi righetti, which for the price was pretty good about $80.
