I always like this place and especially enjoy their Sunday brunch. I would not label their food as gastronomic, but it is always wholesome and not expensive. They have been around for years. Long may they continue.
Spring Price Fix came with what was supposed to be butternut squash soup but was like watered down beef barley soup without the barley. My 10 oz Top Sirloin was ordered medium rare and came out looking like a 4oz minute steak and was well done. When I sent it back it (politely I might add) it came back cooked blue! When my steak came back the chef stood smiling at me from the kitchen while I cut into the steak (making me think his handling of my steak was less than appropriate). The fact it was seared for what could not have been more than 60 seconds a side and the thought of what they may have done to my steak made me stop eating. The dessert was almost as bad, even though they must have tried extra hard to make it so wrong. Chocolate Mousse is not chocolate pudding and if you want to pass it off as that you should at least ensure that there are not chunks of unmixed powder in it! THIS IS THE WORST RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER EVER EATEN AT! ITS PLACES LIKE THIS THAT MAKE WE WISH YOU COULD GIVE A SCORE OF MINUS 5 STARS! If you don’t believe my review sit near the back of the restaurant near the kitchen and listen to how many orders are wrong or sent back because they were not cooked properly. I counted at least 5 in the time we were there.
My wife and I were here for breakfast on Saturday (not the buffet). The restaurant has a great atmosphere seems very clean and also the washrooms are in a great condition. The patio looked nice. The breakfast we had was not the best quality. The eggs my wife ordered were already cold when they came. The fresh fruits were just some melon slices. I didn't get fruits at all, although they were on the menu. After a polite complaint we got the fruits and new warm eggs. Also the butter that came with the pancakes seemed to be out of the fridge for too long. Or refrigerated after being out for too long. The salad I had as substitute for the fries partly went bad already. Some leaves were glibberish dark green. I had to sort them out and the greens that were in touch with that. My omelet and eggs were tasty and the pancakes were fluffy. The was good, but could have been a bit faster. The kitchen could not have been on overload, because only a few customers were in. All in all I think this restaurant has good potential, but needs to take more care about food quality and service speed.
A group of friends and I went to their Canadian wine dinner party. It was great. We had a preset menu with appetizers, soup, VENISON for a main course (which I had never tried but it's great) and maple pecan pie. They had a sommelier describe the pairing of different Canadian wines with the food and life entertainment. My friends had been visiting their wine dinners before and it was my first time. I didn't think it will be as much fun as it was. Everybody had a great time.
Since me and my husband are new to the Beaches we're checking out different places. We loved this restaurant. The food and service were fantastic. Will definitely go there again!
I went with my husband and we had a wonderful night on the patio. We recommend the restaurant to everyone. The food was excellent; the service friendly and prompt. We will be back.
The food and service are outstanding.Me and my wife brought our friends and they really liked the restaurant. We had a nice and relaxed evening and we are highly recommend the place to everyone, who likes nice food and service and relaxed atmosphere.
It is a very nice and cozy family restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed; the food and service excellent. The crab cakes are homemade and are the best I have ever tried in my life. We had a lovely evening and we recommend the place to everyone.
I dont even know where to begin on this place. I dont think i have ever experienced anything as bad as this restaurant. The food was DISGUSTING and mediocore at best. SO incredibly overpriced....My chicken was bought from M&M meat shops and reheated....i have bought the exact same chicken at M&M's and it was gross then....and served with plain white minute rice with butter???? AM I EATING IN A COLLEGE DORM? i would not recommend this place to ANYONE...steer clear of this place.
Our second visit to Whitlocks, First for Brunch... The service was fantastic, as was the food... fresh fruits and salades (potato was fab) perfect rare roast beef and made to order waffles. We will be returning soon!
Absolutely perfect. The stuff was very knowledgeable, provisional, friendly and helpful. Very well established cuisine. The food was grate and the atmosphere was very authentic. I would honestly say it is the # 1 choice at the beaches and trust me I've been in most restaurants there. If I may recommend something it would defiantly be the Gorge Town Pasta, you have no idea how good it is.
My family and I dropped in for brunch. We were delighted by the service provided, but were amazed at the quality of the food. Everything was literally perfect, perhaps with the only exception that we stayed for 2 hours (all you can eat)! I have to watch that in the future, I am trying to lose weight.
Whitlocks is one of my very favourite restaurants. The staff are very friendly and the food is always good. A good place to come on the weekends with family and friends during the summer to eat outside while listening to a live guitarist make the rounds, and a great place to come in the middle of a snow storm on a weeknight after a long day's work, to sit by the fireplace. I recommend Whitlocks all the time!
Took the family for early breakfast before going to the airport. Was impressed and would recommend for anyone.
I went on a Wednesday night with two friends. We had appetizers, pasta, pad-thai and salmon. Food was great. They have excellent wine selection, reasonably priced. Friendly service. Oh, almost forgot that home-made tiramisu ? it is to die for! Definitely will recommend it to everybody.
i was invited for the chilean night. it was great. would recommend to anyone.
My wife and I were delighted at the exemplary service provided by Whitlock?s and its staff. The food was reasonably priced and the wine exemplary. I ate steak, my wife chose pasta. Both these dishes arrived within ten minutes, along with fresh ground pepper and parmesan cheese. We ate, drank a liter of wine and were on our way, well satisfied with both the service and the meal. I would recommend this restaurant.
Simple, pleasant, elegant and appealing. My first visit. I was eager to participate in filling out this review. I feel that the negative implications expressed by some of the reviewers on this site are both biased and factually incorrect. This restaurant is benevolent and skilled. -Jill
I went for Sunday brunch buffet. It was excellent. The food was great, including waffles and omelette bar, eggs benedict and florentine, pancakes, sausages, homefries, roast beef, hot and cold breakfast and lunch dishes, salads, baked goods, cherry tarts and creme caramel. The service was QUICK, including coffee refills, removing our dishes, replenishing the buffet, and the chef making the waffles and omelettes as fast as he possibly could, to keep up with the hoards of customers eager to gobble them up! I have no complaints, other than the fact that some of the people dining there seem to get crabby when they have to wait a while to get at the food! I will definitely be back with friends! I don't like dirt in my food either, and I did not find any whatsoever.
First off, we were one of the only tables in the restaurant...funny for a Saturday night, but all too clear why the place was empty. Lettuce was unwashed & I ate dirt. Chicken rubbery. Pastas seemed like they were yesterdays leftovers (dry and crunchie). Servers rude and unknowledgable about their menu. I was embarassed taking my guests to this restaurant. Never again!

View this Smart ListThe sandwiches at Whitlock's are drool-worthy. They pile each one sky-high with more toppings than you think can fit – such as pea meal bacon, five different cheeses, pulled pork or juicy Portobello mushrooms. And, if you’re really daring, you can order them all on the same sandwich. Each sammy comes with soup, salad or fries, with an additional option of sweet potato fries.
