Christine Hooper still remembers her first yoga class. “That was a long time ago, back in Australia. I was probably 21 years old,” says Christine, who travelled the globe in her 20s and 30s while bartending. The yoga experience stuck with her and when Christine returned to her native Toronto, she started taking yoga classes and then a yoga teaching course in between her regular gig working at The Annex bar Kilgour’s.
After completing her yoga teacher training in 2006, Christine sought out a place to teach a few classes a week but had difficulty finding the right studio. “My boss at the bar downstairs where I worked offered me this space,” she says, gesturing to the small, sun-filled studio above Kilgour’s, where Christine still works a few times a week. After four months of renovations, Twisted Yoga Studio opened in 2008.
