Linda’s Urban Spa has been in Kitsilano since 1986, and founder Linda Magdic has seen some big changes over the years. “Starting out, I used to hand out brochures on the street, asking ‘Would you like to come in for a facial?’” she says. “People would ask, ‘What’s a facial?’”
Try to imagine that happening in today’s body-conscious culture, where bikini waxes and Botox treatments have gone mainstream and there are store window signs advertising hair removal and pedicures all over the city. One big change is the increasingly unisex demand for cosmetic care; these days, men as well as women are seeking out facials, waxing, pedicures and even Botox injections.
Through it all, Linda and her life and business partner John have grown, adapted and flourished through the growth of a city and the rise in popularity of cosmetic services.
