Halloween can be a tough time for teenagers because they're are too old for trick-or-treating but too young to be out all night on their own. Here are a few tips to help you throw an awesome Halloween party for your teen and their friends this year.

With your teen, make out a guest list that includes close friends without going overboard on the inviting.

• You should factor in the adult to teen ratio and the behaviour of your teen and his or her group of friends.
• Decide on the location of your party before you decide on the guest list to be sure that there is enough space.
• You should also come up with a plan to deal with other guests that will show up. Remember these are teens and there are bound to be a few extras.

You want to be sure to stress the timeline for the party to your teenage son or daughter.

• Everyone knows that teenagers have the energy to be able to party into the wee hours of the morning, so you may have to be firm on this one.
• You need to take into account local laws on curfew and be prepared to help your guests get home when the party ends.

While you want to have enough chaperones to keep the party in hand, you also need to understand that teenagers value their privacy.

• You should stay close by, maybe in another room, but don't intrude on the party.
• You can peek around the corner now and then to check on your guests, but give them room to breathe and be themselves.

You will want to have a ton of food available and a huge variety as well.

• Provide pop, chips, pizza and even a few finger foods so that everyone will have something they like.
