I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. I had a Grilled Sandwich with Bacon, Egg & Cheese with a Cream of Broccoli Soup. The sandwich was great and the soup was to die for - so creamy and made from scratch too! It was ready in minutes, so anyone could be in and out of there on their lunch break without a problem, even though the place was packed. I looked around and was very impressed by how clean and tidy this place was. All the staff, including the chef, was very friendly. The biggest surprise, was when I got to the till and saw how affordable it was! When you get great food, which is affordable, a spotless restaurant, friendly staff with good service, what else could you possibly want.......well, there was one thing - I don't prefer booths or stools, but it is part of the classic diner atmosphere and all the other benefits definitely outweigh this one very minor detail. I highly recommend Rene's for anyone who enjoys fine dining but doesn't want to experience "sticker shock" when the cheque arrives. While I enjoy fine food, I don't tend to enjoy "upscale" restaurants. The staff are usually haughty, the portions wouldn't satisfy a hummingbird, and I'm supposed to be impressed just because they artistically drizzled some raspberry sauce along the side of the plate. Rene's Bistro was a very pleasant surprise! While the menu choices were creative and the food delicious, the atmosphere was bustling and friendly. If felt more like a neighborhood cafe, and there were obviously both a lot of locals and tourists there. Best of all: no sticker shock. Read more
