We dined at the Siamese Gecko last evening for our anniversary. The menu had plenty of options, you could choose from curries, stir frys, and soups. After each meal title, there is a ranking of how spicy the dish is starting at not spicy going up to very, very spicy. I chose item 25-2 (sorry, the name escapes me) because it was under the very, very spicy and it certainly was. Even with my tongue on fire, there was an amazing amount of flavour. It was served on a platter with chicken, green beans, sweet red pepper, Thai basil, kaffir lime and crushed hot peppers. My wife had a squash curry that was delightfully creamy and the squash melted in your mouth. It was a non spicy dish with some sweetness in it and again, plenty of flavour. The prices are excellent, most dishes range from 9.99 to 11.99 and we both brought home half of our dinners. Meals do not come with rice or noodles, they are extra. However it was only 1.99 for a bowl of rice that was more than adequate and the whole cost of the meal was very affordable. Service was adequate, the restaurant was clean including washrooms. We both highly recommend!Read more

Stopped in after my wife found it on the 'net. I had the Chicken Pad Thai which is by far the tastiest dinner I've eaten in a long time. Filling too, almost needed a doggie bag. This is my first review, which I felt compelled to write seeing a negative one here. Don't believe it, this place is clean, nicely decorated and you can't beat the food. We chatted with the owner for about 15 minutes. Polite to a fault. I'm definitely coming back. And it's 2.5 hours away.Read more

The many flavours of Thai restaurants in The Blue Mountains ON
Thai cuisine enjoys great popularity worldwide, and for good reason. The dishes are characterized by a harmony of sweet and sour flavours and fresh, bold ingredients like basil, cilantro, lime leaves and mint.
In addition to the freshness of the ingredients, the other big benefit of eating Thai food is economic: most Thai restaurants are quite affordable.
What you'll find on your plate A typical meal consists of a soup, a curry dish or a spicy salad, along with fish and vegetables. To whet your appetite, here are some classic Thai recipes:
Tom yam kung: shrimp and lemongrass soup
Tom ka gay: coconut milk soup with chicken, lemongrass, chili and lime
Pad Thai: fried rice noodles served with bean sprouts and chopped peanuts
Khao niao mamuang: sticky rice with coconut and mango—fruit is the honoured guest at dessert time
Salty fish sauce compliments many Thai dishes. It enhances stews and sautés, as does galangal, which is similar to ginger. Cashews and curry are other musts.
Spicy sauces are often used as well. These are typically made of roasted or dried chili peppers, garlic, shallots, lemon or other citrus fruits, tamarind and vinegar. Keep in mind that the number of little hot peppers shown beside each dish on the menu (one or two or three) usually indicates the level of spiciness.
Another typical recipe is papaya salad, which is enjoyed by everybody in Thailand, from the poorest of families to the clients of the most contemporary Thai restaurants.
