I liked the decor. I got the veggie burger. It was very basic and not that great. The fries were pretty decent. My hubby got the chicken burger. He enjoyed it. He wished he had ordered the wings. The description on the menu doesn't do justice to what they actually are in person, which is jumbo.
Food was really good, service was fast and friendly and the music was awesome! Great site lines to the stage and the dance floor was full. Had a great night, will be back!
Went in for our anniversary dinner after 9pm. Waitress was lovely - very attentive and polite. Seafood Mac'n cheese was some of the best we'd ever had and the ribs were perfect. Our first visit, won't be our last.
Loved our dinner at Stonewall's. Great food, great prices, great service. They were very accommodating to my needs. Will return next time we are in Hamilton.
Your bartenders shut down the show at MIDNIGHT when the building was still packed and the band still wanted to play their encore. The sound guy was on stage the second the set was over and started tearing down even though everyone was still buying drinks and having a good time. What an absolute joke!!!
We paid $100 for New Year's Eve - didn't get a table. I called them, and the receptionist was very defensive, rude, and definitely not sympathetic to me as a customer. She tried to justify the $25 for the band that I was playing . I told her that I went to Baltimore House for FREE on New Year's Eve!! You know what she said? "You should've stayed there". Before I got hung up on with , the receptionist jolted "200 people had fun, clearly not you ". Don't come here, this place is terrible
When I went I left feeling like i didn't get my moneys worth. And the service was bad. Food not bad but pricey. I ordered wings and beers bill was about 90
We were going to the Motley Crue concert at Copps and happened by Stonewalls Restaurant. Wow, what a nice surprise! We weren’t expecting much just, something to tie us over until we got back to Kitchener. They were really busy and found us room at the bar. The bar was very classy with granite counter tops and a couple of really nice bartenders. Our food came in good time considering how busy they were and every one really enjoyed their food and time spent there. My Stonewalls burger was delicious and fries were obviously done fresh in house, nice and crispy! We had mega martinis in huge martini glasses and it made for some really cool pictures. Next time I go to a concert at Copps I know where I am going. Stonewalls!
After reading the reviews online I almost didn't come here. It makes me wonder if some people have a vendetta against this place?? The weather was cool when we went so we didnt sit on the patio, but we had a quick look at it and it looks really nice. Nice flowers, tables, umbrellas etc, it looks very inviting and we will come back to enjoy it as soon as we can. The wait staff was very friendly and welcomed us to Stonewalls upon our arrival. Our server (Shelby) told us all about the new menu (apparently it was just out a few days) and informed us about the up coming events. I'm really looking forward to coming back for the live music. Our server told us how we could find the up coming bands under events on their web page and gave us a business card for Ellie with their web site on it. We had a nice little chat with Shelby and was very pleased to have her as our server. She should get a raise she made our night. I didn't think I was ever going to get my wife to leave she was having so much fun. After looking at the menu I found so many things I wanted to try I didn't know where to start. Shelby recommend a few of their new items to try and we chose the pulled pork sliders to start with. It came with 3 different sauces served on a pretzel bun and we found them very tasty and presented well. For our main course I had my Old time favorite fish and chips and my wife had surf and turf ravioli. The fish and chips was one of the best I have had, crispy, nice golden brown and Shelby made sure we knew we were eating award winning Gold medal fries which she did not lead us wrong, they were delicious and well deserving of many medals in my opinion. My wife said the surf and turf ravioli was like having a party in her mouth (that sort of scares me) but I could tell she was really enjoying it so I had to try it. I don't know about having a party in my mouth but it was very good. Its to hard to make at home fresh so if you are up for some amazing pasta then give this a go. All the portions are big and we ended up taking enough home for lunch the next day. Ellie came to our table and asked us how everything went as we were looking at our bill. We shared with her how we hear their ads on Y108 all the time so thought about giving it a try but almost didn't come from all the bad reviews we had read online before coming out for dinner. I could tell she really cares about Stonewalls and learned from her its not a chain like we thought. Its a family run business, her and her brother (Darren I think) trying to make a nice warm place, for regular people to come eat, hang out and have fun. We were happy to hear they cater to a older clientele on the weekends for entertainment and will surely come back to try out the dance floor. All in all, we were very pleasantly pleased with our first experience with Stonewalls. Our server Shelby, the food, the warm cozy atmosphere, everything was bang on. Either they have really stepped up their game from all these bad reviews we have read about or maybe there is something going on behind the scenes that is suspect. I don't know, I am just glad my wife said "Don't believe everything you read online" actually I think she said newspapers, but you get the idea, and came for a very enjoyable evening. Give them a try, I believe you will have a wonderful evening just like we did. And if you want a great server, ask for Shelby or Ellie.
I don't know what restaurant all these bad reviews ate at, but I've sampled almost everything there is to offer on this menu. Not only is everything homemade, fresh and delicious, but unique. They have a unique twist on calamari which we were told my our server is done on-site by there Chef. There is always a unique soup every time I have gone. Something I have never even heard of at any other restaurant, such as 'Dill Pickle Soup', 'Chicken Caesar Salad soup' and 'Pepperoni Pizza Soup' They sometimes have fresh mussels on the weekends which are delicious! The burgers are the best I have had anywhere, not to mention creative. The fries are also home made and hand cut. All I can say is I have been here several times and have yet to have a bad meal. Although it is busy every time I have gone, they can definetly use with putting more service staff on. A lot of times when I am in there, there is only one server on, bar tending as well as scurrying from table to table. Why a place the size of this would only have one server working and no bartender at all at anytime is ludacris.
Dined twice in this restaurant for a party hosted by employer. Atmosphere is great, however, the food needs to be improved particularly the seafood menu. Most of my co-workers and I were not red meat lovers and opted the seafood. We were disappointed with the fish that was served. It was tasteless. Also ordered the appetizer for the seafood and there was hardly anything on the plate because it shrunk. In addition, serving time was too long. I don't know if it was a scheme so that we constantly have to order lots of appetizers and increase our bill. But it was unacceptable wait time of 45mins to an hour! Because they have a large seating capacity to accomodate. I suggest they have to increase their kitchen staff and equipment to cater to larger crowds especially special occasions and holidays. They should have a guarantee that if serving time is over 45mins to an hour- food is on the house!
A group of friends had planned for weeks for go for dinner & drinks to Stonewalls....Started off bad from the getgo! There was something ...not right in the Ladies Room, I informed our server & she let us know that someone had had an accident & she was going back in there....our table was really dirty....we had to ask for a cloth....which never came. The wait time of drinks was ridiculous! the place wasnt even half full at dinner hour! My meal was terrible & I refused to have them do it again because I had complained & my friends would've been long done before I recieved mine! She let me know that I wasnt being charged for the dinner I didnt eat! Thank you Captain Obvious! Our dirty glasses, cans & bottles piled up! Absolutelky the worst service ever....she passed our table several times without acknowledging us at all.
Today was my birthday and my other half told me he was taking me to dinner at Stonewalls because he had heard good things about it. I always like to start off reviews by providing the positive first, so we'll start there. We walked in the door and were seated immediately. The place is spacious and clean. Our food, when it arrived, was good. When I asked for coffee, she brewed a new pot as she didn't know how old the current one was. (Though I probably would have not informed my diner of this fact) On to the next... We were seated and then left for over 5 minutes before even being asked for a drink order. It took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. Understandable if she was bringing my freshly brewed coffee...but this was not the case. She was only bringing our sodas. We placed our food order, but at no time did she write anything down. Forty-five minutes passed before we were acknowledged again. And I mean this literally. She passed our table several times without a word. I moved my empty coffee cup and soda glass (I had drained them both) to the edge of the table for her attention, I tried to make eye contact...each time she averted her gaze and kept going. Now, I'll admit that management played a huge role because they were busy and had two people working to cover the patio, the bar, the poker tournament and all the tables. Unacceptable. However, I worked hospitality for over 10 years and would NEVER have left my patrons sitting there unattended for that long. The only thing she needed to do to make it right was to stop back and let us know that she was busy, the kitchen was backed up and appreciated our patience. This should have happened after the first 15min. Or even right at the start. Anyway, our server finally stopped after 45 minutes had passed to say she was sorry for the wait and our food would be right out. It still took another 10 minutes before we saw it. At this point, we had been there for over an hour and were starving. Thus, I had to choose not to make an issue over my burger because I wasn't waiting for another hour. When ordering, I specifically asked for the cheese to be omitted from my burger. This is a preference for me, but nobody there knew that. This could have been some sort of dietary restriction or allergy. When my burger arrived, I discovered that half the bun had been scraped away with remenants of melted cheese still clinging to the sides. I sucked it up, pulled the chunks of cheese off what remained of the bun and ate it anyway. If I had been allergic and hadn't been so disillusioned that I thought to check first, it could have been a disaster. The burger itself was good, though, and Hubby's steak was good, even though it was medium rare and he had asked for well. The burger was messy eating as it took all of about 30 seconds for the thin slip of bun that was left to rip open and drop my burger onto my plate. Our plates were empty and Hubby decided he wanted a slice of cake. I was too upset by then to even consider it and tried to talk him out of it. He would not be discouraged, however, and we sat with empty plates for another 13 minutes (yes, by this time I had actually started timing it) before she came and took his dessert order. After this, it was another 17 minutes for a cold slice of cake and a bowl of vanilla ice cream. When she delivered it, I asked for the bill at the same time. 11 minutes until the bill with an 'I discounted you 15% for the wait'. I don't know how long it took her to pick up the bill because as soon as the money was in the folder, I was out the door. I've never been so upset about a dinner out before, but I'll tolerate bad food before I'll tolerate bad service and this service was terrible. It all could have been avoided by a little honesty and communication at the onset so we could have made an informed decision on whether we wanted to wait or not.
Baseball Steak-blue, great Cabernet, sunny patio! Freakin' AWESOME. Y-108 playin' cool rock out onto York blvrd. Live music is great. Patio sunny. Menu reasonable and great tasting...and all the waitresses are...HOT!
One of the worst experiences ever for us. The food took forever to arrive. The fish and chips were the worst my husband has ever had. The fish and batter were tasteless and the fries were cold. they even screwed up the coleslaw. My pasta dish tasted bland and it was probably stale. The appetizers we had were probably all originally frozen and had little taste. Our server was pleasant but seemed more interested in chatting with her fellow servers than waiting on her tables. The other servers were of the same mindset. Not sure if the one guy was the owner or manager but he seemed more interested in flirting with the staff than running a restaurant. Couldn't figure out if this was a restaurant or dating service. The sound system is also mediocre. They have a nice atmosphere there with the fireplace and leather seats ..... But once you taste the food you know the truth. Get a new chef , manager and waitstaff and keep the ambience. The desserts were stale as well
After our last experience at another restaurant where we couldn't get a server to bring us a drink we left and came to Stonewalls. Our server Stacy, was amazing, attentive, and informative. This was our first time here and we asked her a bunch of questions and she took the time to answer our questions and tell us about everything that Stonewalls has to offer. She informed us about the features of the day and drink specials. Our food was really really good and the fries, OMG, they were awesome! The atmosphere is very modern and has a nice classy feel to it. We'll be back, and Thanks Stacy for the great service, we found our new hang out!
When Stonewalls originally opened in my neighbourhood I start counting down the days until they would inevitably have to close down. I thought the decor and the upper-end menu would not match the area's tastes. I am so pleased I was wrong! For me, Stonewalls has been fantastic. There is something for everyone on the menu and all of it has been good to very good, no matter what time of the day I go. There is often something going on at night (poker, trivia, live music) and there is a solid crowd 25-55 years old, never rowdy and the dress code seems to be business casual for most patrons. Their service is courteous and they take the time to get to know you and what you want. They are willing to work with dietary restrictions and make recommendations. The owner circulates regularly and knows all of their regular clientele. The decor is very nice: stone walls, well-light bar, large tables, many TVS... It is all very new, modern and fresh looking. They have a stage and a dance floor for weekend nights, big tables, lots of seating and I'm happy to bring both my friends AND clients to Stonewalls. I've liked everything I've ordered. In particular, they make a great cobb salad, pot roast grilled cheese, beer battered brie, artichoke dip and their fries are among the better ones I've had. It blows my mind that their are bad reviews on this restaurant, it's totally different from everything else downtown in an amazing way. Don't let them throw you off, this place is well above average and doesn't deserve any negative hype.
Must say i really enjoyed my time at stonewalls, went for a birthday party and they already had the reservation set up to accommodate us all. Staff are all very friendly and work together. The food was super fast for the number of ppl we had. Love the location and decorations. Everything was great. Thanks again Stonewalls. P.S. love all the entertainment and updates in the view!!!!!
I have been looking for somewhere like Stonewalls in Hamilton for a long time. I haven't found anywhere where under one roof you can find amazing live music, delicious food and a fun and friendly staff. We were there to see Tomi Swick on a Tuesday night and we had a blast. I have a lot of dietary needs and my server was very accomodating and spoke with the chef about what would be suitable for me. I ended up getting the cobb salad and the catch of the day which was very fresh. The cobb salad was the best I have ever had. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and can't wait to go back for more music soon!
My friend invited us out for dinner and not having heard about Stonewalls I thought I would read some reviews about it prior to going. After I did this I called my friend back and asked if we could go some where else. The reviews were mostly bad to say the least. My friend said he has never heard any reviews about Stonewalls but goes there all the time and its been great each time. So I relented and off to Stonewalls we go. From the out side it was okay and wasn't sure what to think, but as soon as I walked in and saw the warm decor and the size of it, I was relieved, its beautiful inside. I thought this is a place I can see my self coming to for a great night out. But, I was concerned about the food after all the reviews I read so still not sure. We were greeted very warmly by Jennifer at the door who also served us. She is so nice and friendly and what a smile. She took us to a booth, now that is a booth, lol. It easily fit all six of us and one of my friends is on the rather hmm large size and we all fit very comfortably in the booth. We got the menu and we all decided to order some apps to share. We ordered the calamari, Beer Battered Brie, and Irish Nachos. I wasn't expecting much after reading all the reviews and was in a little bit of a sour mood because of it and ready to be the first to have something go wrong so I could say to my friend "I told you so". I tried the calamari first, and wow, is all I can say. After everything I read the last thing I was expecting was tasting the best darn calamari I have ever had. What a nice surprise. I had the Irish Nachos next and they had a nice kick to them and where nice and crispy with a ton of cheese on them. I tried the beer battered brie next and really enjoyed the fresh berries on top, really nice, but the big winner of the apps was without a doubt was the calamari that was served with 3 sauces. Go try it yourself, its amazing! It was Prime Rib night so that had me sold as soon as I heard that and my girl friend had the Malibu Coconut Rum Chicken Pasta dish (anyway to get more booze in her, lol) My prime Rib was perfectly cooked, I am not big on peppers in my veggies but the rest was really tasty. The pasta was cooked al dente, and my g/f loved it. For me, I like it the way I grew up with it in my non-Italian family, over cooked! My rather large sized friend who goes to Stonewalls often had the Stonewalls burger and he talked about it so much after dinner I thought it should be nominated for an Oscar or something. I didn't taste it but man, it sure did look good. I cant remember any of the other dishes our other friends had but every one really enjoyed their food and had a wonderful time. And it was my friend who said to me "I told you so". I am glad I was proved wrong, Stonewalls is the place to be for great food and a pleasant atmosphere. For me, this has taught me a big lesson. Give every place a chance and don't believe everything you read. I do have one regret, I wish I had a bigger stomach. Desert looked amazing but had no room for it, guess that means another trip down to Stonewalls, lol. On our way out a grey haired man (Manager?) was standing at the front entrance and asked us how everything was. I told him I almost didnt come to Stonewalls because of all the negative reviews I read and was pleasantly surprised to have great food and an amazing server. He said "Yes, we get that all the time". He very candidly stated they have had some bad nights but with the new chef on staff have been slowly changing the perception of Stonewalls one customer at a time. He also said, if you have a great experience do you rush home and write a review about it? Most people don't, but if you have a bad one, you go out of your way to tell every one. Truer words have never been spoken. On the way home I talked to my girl friend about his words and made a point of making a commitment to writing this review. Sorry for not rushing home and doing it right away, but after all
