Sofia Abdelkafi, now a member of the College of Dieticians of Quebec, came to Montreal at the age of 18 to study nutrition, and immediately fell in love with the city. Originally from the Mediterranean, Sofia now feels very much at home in Montreal.
Sofia was drawn to nutrition because she liked the sciences and was a natural communicator. "I saw a real need in many people looking to improve their diet," says the nutritionist. She began to lecture as soon as she graduated and has since spoken at over 100 Montreal companies. Subsequently, she has worked as a nutritionist in multidisciplinary clinics, with both health professionals and people who simply want to change their eating habits.
The idea of working in a private clinic appealed to her. It meant she could help people achieve their goals and be with them throughout the process. "In nutrition, Mediterranean cuisine is known to be one of the best," says Sofia. She relies on her expertise in nutrition, but also her cultural knowledge to guide her practice. In 2010, she opened My Nutritionist in Old Montreal.
