When Patrick Hebert opened Café Lili et Oli, he knew it was something he truly believed in. Before going into the cafe business, he was studying history at Concordia while working part-time at Café Olympico. He actually enjoyed his job at the cafe far more, so it seemed like better idea to open his own shop.
But of course he couldn’t do it all on his own. One could even say Café Lili et Oli is a family business. His father is a retired lawyer, and Patrick was fortunate to have him help with the legal matters. Patrick's brother-in-law, Tony Campanelli, helped open the store, and then his brother Dan joined as a partner in 2009.
“A cafe is less maintenance, less overhead, and less staff than a restaurant. It was something that I knew I could pull off when I was 23,” Patrick says. “My brother-in-law helped me out a lot with the paperwork because he owned a restaurant previously and there’s a lot of stuff that you would have no idea how to start with.”
Lili and Oli, located in the popular Griffintown neighbourhood, is a must-go café if you enjoy a nice dark roast. They also make an excellent latte. Inside you’ll find many people in deep discussion or working on their laptop. You’ll find this inspiring and most likely want to do the same. The Wi-Fi, the clean ambiance and the natural light peering through the large windows will all make for a productive afternoon.
