Bicycles McW

Bicycles McW has been around for a long time and has quite a history. Joseph McWhinnie started it as a local repair shop in the heart of N.D.G. and eventually Fred Francolini, the godfather of current co-owner Salvatore Mastantuono, bought the shop. Having worked at CCM, Fred and Joseph started repairing and selling bicycles and accessories as well as maintaining the locksmith services. Eventually, Fred opted to sell the bicycle division of McWhinnies to Nicola and Pino Mastantuono and under their ownership, McWhinnies Cycles prospered as one of the top bicycles shops in Montreal.

Today, the store has been renamed Bicycles McW and Sal and Ricardo Mastantuono are the second generation owners proud to keep up the tradition. “We were born into it,” says Ricardo. “My dad and uncle owned McWhinnies for 30-plus years and I grew up working with my dad since I was 12, fixing flats and stuff like that.”

“We’re following the family tradition, but also trying to modernize and make it a little more higher end and still personalized with a super-knowledgeable staff and great atmosphere,” Ricardo says. “We’re making it into something fun, but we also want to keep catering to all cyclists.”
