Founded in 1966, the Kitchener-Waterloo Bilingual School is a private, independent, and nonsectarian institution offering full-day instruction from kindergarten through Grade 8. The school is dedicated to excellence in French-English education and to the fostering of tolerance and respect for each individual child in an atmosphere of cultural, economic, racial, religious, and social diversity. Our school is located at the corner of Erb Street West and Erbsville Court. It began in 1966 when a group of parents got together looking for a bilingual education for their children. At the time, there was no French Immersion offered in public schools. A brief association with the Toronto French School got us off the ground, but quickly we formed our own organization with a strong parent community and a hard working parent committee. The site for the school was chosen in what was originally a separate village named Rummelhardt. It included the 1867 fieldstone schoolhouse that still stands on the school grounds. The parents did everything for the new school, including building additional classroom spaces with their own hands. The school grew, and in September of 1999 we opened our beautiful new building.more...See more text
