I went to the Zee Grill last night with a friend of mine. Because we were two women having dinner together we were totally ignored by the wait staff. We waited over an hour for our oysters and then when we finally received our main course, which was cold, we had to ask several times for our wine. We were offered a dessert menu, but it was never brought. Cavalier attitude on the part of the wait staff.
Everything was so perfect, I like the way every dish had unique flavours, fresh herbs and seasonings, the homemade smoked sambal aioli was to die for on the fritters, we bought a jar to go, the food is inventive and well executed and we will gladly make the drive from Waterloo any day for that caliber of food.
Zee Grill, a long-standing, consistent performer located on restaurant row along Mt. Pleasant south of Eglinton, provides consistently fresh and contemporary cuisine, emphasizing fresh ingredients, with a decidedly east-coast influence on its menu and decor. A lively atmosphere and friendly, efficient service complete the experience. While not inexpensive, dining at Zee Grill won't break the bank either. The kind of place you have no problem recommending to friends and others looking for a dining experience they can end with a smile.
I was very impressed with the freshness of the food and the friendliness of the staff. The Poke Salad was delicious and the presentation was unique. The grilled calamari was perfectly spiced. We had the Jambalaya with the smoke sambal. So fresh and tasty! the Pickerel was wonderful and so fresh. Looking forward to my next visit
Worst food i ever had in my life. The place is great service is excellent but i can't understand why people do pay so much for food that not even fresh
Really good food and the presentation is really "nice" to put it especially the zee salad which was really good. Really only a seafood place their steak was good but a tad overcooked but whatever. Overall a very good restaurant and I recommend it
Outstanding seafood. Probably Toronto's best. The ambiance is very unique as is the chef's mostly seafood menu. The highlight for me was the lobster roll. Lobster meat rolled in a very thin skin of Asian pear and served chilled. Fantastic.
Everything we ordered we raved about. The halibut was superb; the calamari was the best ever eaten by my husband; the Japanese seabass melted in your mouth. We each ordered a different dessert and each was a perfect combination of flavours.
Always worth a visit! We hadn't been there for some time, and we noticed that there had been changes on the menu. Jac Eckhardt keeps trying new things, and the results are always pleasing. The baby pumpkin succotash, stuffed and garnished with seafood, was particularly inspired.

Surviving the trends of the 80s, 90s and 2000s takes serious work and commitment. Since 1981, Zee Grill has served sophisticated fish and seafood. I still remember an enlightened bouillabaisse I had there in the mid-90s. The menu might have changed (fish tacos and lobster rolls are more recent additions), but their zeal for seafood hasn’t.
View this Smart ListAt Zee Grill there are lots of oysters to choose from on the menu. The oysters are brought in from the U.S. and the Eastern and Western coasts of Canada. You can also enjoy the oysters on the raw bar samplers; the Plateau Royal comes with 12 oysters alongside mussels, clams, shrimp and lobster.
