My sister and I had lunch at the Eggspectation located on Yonge Street in Toronto this afternoon, and our experience did not meet our "eggspectation". The server did not come to take our orders until 15 minutes after we had sat down, after we placed our orders the waitress did not bring us all of our food. I had ordered white toast with my meal, and she brought us brown, my sister had asked for her own set of toast, but we had only received 2 slices. We were neglected throughout our whole experience, we did not receive any refills for our beverages either. Since we were not taken care of, we had to flag down the manager who then had to bring us our other pieces of toast to eat with our COLD FOOD and beverages. By the end of the meal we had to wait 20 more minutes to see the waitress who was nowhere to be found. She finally came, but left and did not come back to get our change, SO we had to get another manager on site to get the change we needed to for bill. Overall, the service was unbearable and the food was not worth the price or the trouble.
Service was a little blah, but the breakfast was good. Its a little overpriced for what you get, though.
I was surprised at how much attention went into building the dish as well as how fresh the ingredients were. The hostess' greeting was very warm, the service was friendly and prompt and the manager was genuinely concerned with my dining experience as his guest. I feel very comfortable and welcome eating here and will definitely return.
Friday afternoon; party of 5; given seats for 4 and subsequently for 6 after 2 minutes of reasoning. The staff was still unconvinced:'That's what we do every Saturday and Sunday!', referring to the act of packing customers neatly around their generous tables. Naturally the luckiest person gets the most comfortable seat at the table crack and the time of their life trying to balance their plates on the very even surface. Absolutely lovely! Strange how they didn't think of seating 3 people at 2-seaters. That's not all the fun we had for the day! Coffee mugs are apparently commonly served with lipstick stains(hear it from the waitress), especially on Friday afternoons where waitresses are sluggish and tend to miss a hot pink stain the size of a pinkie smudged across an ivory white mug. We Forgive self-proclaimed-overworked waitress who snapped at us for pointing out the color discrepancy on the mug, rather than apologize for the,in her words,often-faulty dishwasher. Well, I'm sorry we didn't eggspect a filthy dining eggsperience. We Forgive the manager too, who didn't so much as bother to assure us that such events will not happen to us again in the near future, but defend himself by offering us a perfectly logical explanation that "his waitress has had a long day" and that "such things happen" instead. Of course they do, honey, or there wouldn't be excellent restaurants around. After all, THERE CAN BE NO GOOD WITHOUT THE MEDIOCRE. I suppose our stay here in Toronto couldn't get any worse then! Thank you Eggspectation! You certainly have lived up to your own marvelous expectations! It certainly takes a lot more courage to brave frequent lousy comments.
I will tell you that I am a server at a chain restaraunt so i know both the responsibility and the hard work that goes into serving. Our experience started with my party waiting at our table for a server for 5-7 minutes, but we could clearly see the place was packed so no problem. when the server finally arrived he greeted us with a warm welcome of "What do you want?" So we proceed to order drinks and food. any question we had was answered in one word quite hastily. after another 5 minutes we still have no drinks, we look back at the bar to see our two bar drinks sitting their. when we finally get them they are undrinkable, i had to spit out the frozen smoothie, it was warmer than room temperature. we kindly ask our server for two new bar drinks and he was clearly angered, he goes makes new ones himself and throws them down on the table. mind you the two other people didn't even get there drinks yet. another 15 minutes pass by and we see a burger sitting where all the food is run, Our eggs are finally ready and the food is delivered, the burger is of course cold. the other 2 people finally get there drinks, 35 minutes into the meal, at least. We finally call the manager over and tell him about all of this and he proceeded to laugh in our faces, when we get the bill we see he took nothing off, then we spoke again and he took 30% but this would not do, we gave the manager 20 dollars and said good riddance. by far the worst experience at a restaraunt i have ever had.
The main dishes are all very good, with lots of variety. My main complaint is about the service, I have been to this restaurant a handful of times and always something goes wrong. On one particular visit we didn't see our waiter again after he took our order until he dropped off the check for us (which we didnt ask for because we were not done!) without as much as a thank you. We love the food but always think twice before going because we always end up leaving angry. Its basically a last resort place now which is too bad.
Ordered one of the omlettes and found some of the breakfast sausage was completely burned, and I ate it which I thought that was bacon first place! Told the waitress about it but no refund was in place. By all means, she's just a plate knocked off her head off!! Will try another menu next time!
This is basically in response to Stephanie. I have owned my own restaurant for 25 years. When I visited the Vaughan Mills location my food also came 20 minutes after the rest of my party. The manager who you referred to as a 'disheveled youth' also spoke to me at my table. After speaking with him, he gave me my meal free and was very apologetic the entire time. He allowed me to order anything I wanted off the menu. He was extremely polite and professional, and I have a hard time believing that he acts anything less around other people. Besides my original meal being late, everything else was perfect. My server and the manager were top notch. I will be visiting this establishment again.
In my 10 years living in TO, this restaurant gets my vote for the WORST on all counts. Have never been made to feel this horrid at any restaurant! To start with, the female server who did understand my order asked me to repeat by saying, "You want to eat WHAT?” The chocolate crepes (obviously containing eggs!) arrived undercooked - we sent them back. We asked for a fruit bowl since, at first, the servers seemed to be apologetic and eager to help and also told us that they had a very busy day and had made the batter in a hurry (don't know what that had to do with the dangers of undercooking eggs!). They decided on their own to not report this to the Manager but give us an "equivalent" amount of fruit plates, which we thought were complimentary. Upon receiving the bill we found that we had been charged for the crepes. Upon questioning, we were rudely told patronized by the same rude female server, that we were out to eat "food for free" and that we should be grateful for what they had done for us! The Manager, who had by then arrived, had to physically pull her away from the table to discipline her. Further, even though he assured us that he would sort out the issue but ended up charging us $2 less than the original amount - apparently, this is how 'Eggspectations" works - serve rubbish food and then charge for it. Wish I had read the other reviews before putting myself through this trauma! Will NEVER visit this restaurant again.
This restuarant is terrible. Service is slow, food is cold, and the staff are dreadfully rude. I thought it was just the once, and a second visit confirmed it. Then, I gave the chain a second chance at Vaughan Mills... it was pathetic. I tried to speak to a manager... be a disheveled youth didn't give a damn that an order was not put in, twenty mintues later than the rest of the party and then delivered wrong. Never go there!!!
Great atmosphere and staff, the owner him self sat us at our table and was a great pleasure to chat with. The service was impeccable. And the food was excellent. A must go for breakfast lovers!
The food is very good and delivered very quickly. The management is very attentive if something is missed. The downside is that it is so busy and so loud that you are often seen shouting to your colleagues to be heard and sometimes so busy that your waiter forgets simple things like Ketchup and your drinks. Good place to go and even though busy worth the wait if it is under 10 minutes.
I'm not sure when the above clients attended this restaurant. It is overcrowed to be sure but the service is slow and because of the volume and type of food they serve (eggs) the food is typically cold. Moreover, the food and beverages are overpriced. As a sometime patron of this restaurant in Montreal prior to its Toronto expansion I was hoping the Toronto store would solve some of these problems, the truth is it has not. I would avoid this restaurant and would definitely do so on Sunday.
