Food was trash. Everything tasted like Cardboard and you could tell it has been sitting for hours. Im a mandarin enthusiast and this is by far the worst and only bad experience i have had. I Will never return to this locataion and will use all other locations before like all previous visits. Hamilton, Burlington, Barrie, Ottawa all 10 outta 10. This location .5 outta 10
Always good service, p,easing atmosphere, and superb food, many choices. Staff are always cleaning up, which is important in a food service facility. Washrooms are kept clean as well.
We called for reservations for our Christmas dinner about 2 weeks before Christmas. We got there about 10 minutes early to total confusion about 75 people standing at the door waiting to be seated. We were told it would be about a 45 minute wait we were not impressed so we left. We went to the Magnolia Chinese restaurant and had a quite dinner that was very nice for less than half the cost. It'll be a long time before we go to the Mandarin We were NOT happy
OMG!!! Ordered take out from the St. Catharine's Mandarin. The order included two different kinds of soup. When I got home both were ice cold, obviously right from the refrigerator. So I call to complain, and was put through to the manager who apologized profusely, and offered to send the soup immediately, which I was okay with. An hour later two ice cold containers of soup came. OMG!!! I won't be going there ever again.
take out order was half an hour late.
This is a buffet restaurant so you have many dishes to try, and we did. Love their shrimps and crab legs. Good value.
Greeted by everybody, very inviting atmosphere, excellent food soo much to choose from! we especially liked how the manager caem and asked how it was and several servers made sure everthing was perfect, and it was. Definatly the most courteus mandarin i've been too!
This restaurant offers a very good buffet for lunch or supper. It is less expensive at lunch and it is one of the fewer restaurants to offer a senior's discount. Many seniors will eat a significant meal here at noon to last them through the day. The food is not only Chinese but Japanese and also traditional Canadian fare. The manager is friendly as are the staff and the atmosphere is clean. I like the attention to create an Asian feel to the restaurant with extra features such as aquariums and Koi pools at the entry. Additionally this restaurant offers some interesting foods to coincide with Chinese Festivals such as the New Year in February.
The last couple olf times we've been here the food was just not up to snuff. Stale, somewhat old. However, this time the food was excellent. Crabs and shrimp were very fresh. Didn't need the melted butter for the crab legs - nice sweet taste all on their own. The chocolate covred strawberries were so fresh - tasted as if they had been picked within the hour. Overall I would say a great improvement. We will definitely be back.
Heard about this restaurant and decided to travel from Montreal to St. Catharines to see for myself what it has that's better than any other buffet. Was very impressed with the decor, ambience, and the great selection of foods offered, awesome! Would definetly go back for this experience of food.
Sorry I don't like the food. I go because someone else always wants to go there. It gets very crowded, the tables are too close together and I'm always in a room with a noisy party.
Well, I was surprised that the St.Catharines mandarin is really nothing like the one in Burlington. I have eaten there many times, One night, aproximatley 6 months ago, I noticed that the chicken wings were rotten, anyone can smell bad chicken, I reported this immediatley , I mean what if someone gets ill ?. The waiter came over and had the gull to argue with me and made assumptions that I was looking for a free meal. I stopped going for the longest time, Well, once again I gave it another "shot" The so called prime rib was nothing but fat, thats how they were serving it, the trays were mostly empty. The Mandarin in St.Catharines really gives a bad impression of what a "REAL" Mandarin is for someone that has only been there ( St. Catharines) We had a year old baby..... they asked us if he ate... of course he eats... well that will be 2$ if he will eat something,,, yep it was on the bill.. 2 dollars for a one year old that had a bun. Totally not worth the trip there, save your gas.
rast beef was fatty and not very tasty, chinese food avaerage sea food was ok was suprised not stirfry as expected in this type of resturant service was slow getting tea and coffee took for ever
Honestly, I live by the motto of you get what you pay for and I definitely didn't get my money's worth at Mandarin. They have pretty decent serving sizes there but the food tends to be too greasy or dry. I often get stomach aches because of their food due to those reasons, and perhaps MSG? Point being, it's an okay place to eat but I for one will not go there again.
I enjoyed the food and the service was very good. Very friendly workers.
Seafood & disert were excellant, but service was not good enough. We enjoed anyways.
Little bit expensive, but food is always fresh. I like this place very much.
This an all round good restaurant,I do have a concern though with not just this place but with all self serve buffet style restaurants, Everyone handling the spoons/forks/thongs can spread some serious germs from person to person, new serving utensils are definately needed and changed frequently to stop the possibility.
worst service i ever encountered. food is ok, but nothing to write home about. beef was tough.
I was not impressed with the food at all, there was way to much American food not enough Asian. A lot of the foods I ate was ether over cooked or lacked flavor. Some of the food had that out of the freezer reheat taste. I love chicken balls but not from this place they were under cooked with raw dough in side and the chicken was dried out. I enjoyed the fresh grill the first trip but on my third trip up I grabbed some more chicken and beef but they were both burned. They also did not have some of the Asian dishes I'm use to seeing clearly the result of having to make room for all that American food. For the price I expected much better food. The service was good but not great but maybe the result of the time we went just after Christmas. The place was cramped the tables are too close together had to move my seat my time times to let people pass. I will never return, there are other Asian buffets that are cheaper and have almost the same selection.
