You Can Find Better
Originally had a different restaurant in mind when leaving the hotel in search of dinner. I happened to walk past and the thought of Indian food hit my taste buds. I should have continued walking onwards... The place itself is nothing spectacular. It's pretty average for decor - not hole in the hole, but nothing near fancy either. Background music was so quiet, it might as well not even be on. I was provided a seat by the window. The place had a decent amount of people in it, especially for a Monday late dinner. Each table in the place had a lit candle except for mine, and no attempt was made to light it. Truth be told, I could care less, but the only reason I bring it up is that it should have been a sign as to what I could expect from the evening. My order was placed, and could not believe how long it took to finally come out. First for the soup, then for the Paneer. I don't know if the issue was with the kitchen or the server not checking on things. All dishes received were quite bland for Indian dining. I've seen my fair share of Indian restaurants in this country, and this definitely ranks on the bottom. Dare I say the food was quite North American in the sense there was no heat (spice) and best described as conservative. Definitely lacked salt, and I'm no salt junkie. The paneer itself must have had about 4-5 cubes of cheese, and the peas were definitely firm. And given how generic the rice was, it wasn't worth the $4 they were charging for it. When complete, I was surprised how long it took for the bill to be brought, especially considering he was looking right at me and had already taken my dishes away. Anyways, this seems long enough, so I'll just say that eventhough I haven't tried many Indian places in Ottawa, I'm sure you can find better. Pass this.
