I usually buy a take out cold cut sandwich when I visit La Bottega - very tasty, good value at ~$5.00 and popular.
On 16 Feb 2011, I tried the little cafe at the back of the store. We were two people and had sandwich and salad specials. Both meals were tasty, hot and good value at $11 and $12. Service was very quick and friendly.
Located in downtown’s buzzy ByWard Market, this sandwich and pizza place is a great spot to grab a quick lunch, with popular menu items as pleasing to your taste buds as they are to your wallet. Choose from a variety of fresh breads like focaccia, then take your pick of fresh meats, like prosciutto and other wonderful toppings. Spicy eggplant is a favourite of regulars. It might sound a lot like those other sandwich joints, but the locals beg to differ, calling these to-die-for sandwiches bigger, tastier and cheaper!
A fine specialty food store located in the ByWard Market, La Bottega Nicastro prides itself on serving great food at every price point. The Nicastro family has operated a number of Italian grocery stores in Ottawa for two generations. The stores, however, are known for the generously filled takeout sandwiches and the line-up for the takeout counter often winds around the store at lunchtime. A favourite classic is prosciutto on focaccia with provolone, lettuce and hot peppers.
