My family of 3 had dinner at the restaurant 2days ago. The service was ok but the food was terrible! We had to wait for almost an hour for the food. Then, finally when the food came, the pasta was way over cooked. It was so mushy and blend that I couldn't eat. It was same with my daughter's gnocchi. My husband's veal dish was ok. But, over all, the food was terrible and was way over priced. I do not recommend to any one.

Some things never change

Went here several times a month with family throughout the 80s & early 90s. A lot of great memories and got goosebumps when I walked in the doors nearly 20 years later. Same decor, same great food & service, and Sinatra is still the music of choice. The cheese manicotti is even better than I remember and I can't believe I went without a Troc Salad for so long. Delicious & fresh tossed in the same homemade vinaigrette. And the meatballs? Simply awesome. It's a trip back in time for sure. I can't tell you how happy I am that I have rediscovered this Hamilton landmark. And that after 70 years the same high standards still hold up. Only open weekends and closed in the summer starting in July I think. If you're on the fence, just go you won't regret it.

Straight out of the lovely '60s!

We love this place! Such a great little family run business! Very old school. They were featured in "The Kennedys" TV show this year, and no wonder. Very retro atmos, from gold-swirled mirrors, black lavastone facade, great italian standards and sweet, charming owners. The people here really care about the clientele. They make sure you have everything you want, made fresh to order. Great food, great service and utterly charming. If you want a quiet date at a sweet little italian place, this is where to go!

Secret Spot

Utterly fascinating old restaurant. A trip back in time. A good trip. Very friendly and attentive staff. Good, old fashioned Italian fare. The lasagna was very nice. The Caesar salad was really excellent. I love the old time flavour of the food and the place. The interior is a dimly lit but inviting cave. The exterior--a one of a kind fascade of lava-stone. Worth visiting just to see the place. We'll be back.

They said HOLD ON - it is a pretty big bird hahaha

Alright Im not going to write a big letter on here but here is what I have experienced in that restaurant: 1. No parking 2. My food was cold on top, luke warm on the bottom , chicken was overdried that one would choke on it!!! 3. Long waiting time ! Over an hour ( note: there was like nobody inside the restaurant, it was dead in there! 4. The seats are not comfortable - hurts even now + their seat is teared up ! 5. They don't have too much in their menu to choose from 6. They expected a TIP from me after they knew how bad job they've done. So yeah I will never return . For me a bad experience on my anniversary :(

My husband and I thuroughly enjoyed our first visit to The Trocadero. To start I had the crabcakes and he had the ceasar salad. My husband had the special veal with veal demi and I had the grilled salmon with shrimps, scallops, and linguini in lemon vodka sauce. And we shared the bananas foster for dessert. Everything was great!

Terrible

Had a reservation. Table for 2 comes in beside us about half an hour after us. They get their main dishes before us! Server finally comes around and asks us if we had our mains yet! Ah no! Runs away embarrassed. Comes back apologetic and says dinners on the way. The other server also comes along full of excuses for the missing dinners. Still takes too long. Almost convinced my partner to get up to pay for what we already had and leave. Dinners finally arrive, but too late night is ruined. Food was awful, like it was a quick slap together job. This is a restaurant that has been in business for over 60 years? You've got to be kidding. For a so called fine dining establishment this was a disgraceful occurence. Made even worse by this inept staff. Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.

A Glimpse into Nostalgialand!

Delightful, comforting, special.......a wonderful peek into the past. There is something to be said for leaving well enough alone, and NOT going for modern updates just to be modern. The ambiance and service is simply the best....attentive, but not hovering. The restaurant is large, but intimate( if that can be). The menu has tasty HOME MADE Italian dishes, enough so you have to narrow your choices down. Everything is delicious!Do not pass up desert...anything will do....just go for it. You will want to linger anyway to take in all the memory provoking sights. If you have been there a few times, the personnel will take a special interest in you and treat you like royalty. If you're having a special event, make a reservation and they will take care of you. I live in Burlington but the Troc is my #1 destination for a special evening. Salut!!!!

Being a sole diner, I am somewhat sensitive as to how I am treated by an establishment. Well here, there was no waiting for a table or feeling there was a time limit for the next arrival, due to tiny quarters. This restaurant has ample space to prevent claustrophobia, rubbing elbows or overhearing neighbouring tables’ conversation, and I didn’t get the feeling of being rushed either. Can’t say the same for other places I have visited. My server was very pleasant and quite knowledgeable about the menu items, and this only added to my overall pleasure when the meal arrived. I thoroughly enjoyed my charbroiled steak with its special wild mushroom sauce, cooked perfectly to my specifications. My salad was unique in that the goat cheese and grilled vegetables were inside a pastry package, with mixed green tossed in a raspberry balsamic dressing. This place is an absolute gem…... no wonder it’s been around so long.

I remember my family going to this restaurant all...

I remember my family going to this restaurant all the time years ago....It WAS great, however it has really gone down hill. The service was friendly once we were seated. Because of not enough staff for the Easter holiday, they put reserved signs on more then half of the tables to insure that the restaurant would not have too many people visiting. Of course these reserved tables were never filled. Food was ok but overly priced. Our bread basket had a piece of bread in it that had a bite taken out of it....maybe from another table??? The wine list was nice, too bad they were "Sold out" of our first 2 choices. I won't be back.

Is this really the same restaurant? I have my doubts. What a shame to have let one of the finest restaurants in Hamilton go so down hill.
