Bacon was burnt and coiled into balls. Potatoes were cold ... 2nd time for that. Service was cheerful and attentive but not interested in a remedy for the bacon and poratoes. The eggs had cooled off to a tepid temperature. All day breakfast is their claim to fame but the Charbroiled on the main street of Dundas or Steve's on James South are stellar by comparison. I won 't be back .
Ok I tried ti give the EGG & I another chance, we have been going there for years and last time I was there my daughter got a long black hair grilled into her sandwich - that kind of turned us off - so its been a few months - so we went in today and it took them awhile to serve us, but ok I can live with that it was busy, so then we ordered my turkey on a bun came out and the bun was soggy and wasnt toasted and NO mayo like I asked for, and my friend got the breakfast a what happened to there portion sizes - it came out on a small plate hardly any food it looked like a childs portion, her toast was burnt. Then my side order of fries and gravy that cost over 5 bucks was only half full - and the gravy tasted burnt - I was disgusted - ever since the son took over the business he has cheaped out on everything and the food was not edible. I think hes too busy in there to worry about customers. Sorry guy I will never go back there again.
My Family, friends and I have been going to the Egg and I for years and although I never thought of writing a review, I have to this time. We were greeted immediately and only waited a few minutes for a table to clear, it was packed! We celebrated my birthday last Sunday and I was craving their Herb Feta Omelette, with a side of Cherry Pink Bacon, which in my opinion is the BEST brand to buy, and cooked to my perfection. Our drinks came out fast, coffee was fresh and always available but what I appreciated most was all our food came out at the same time. Everyone enjoyed their order and we all devoured the Banana Walnut Pancakes. I've been to fine dining and can't stand when my portion is the size of my palm and our food is not served at the same time. The Egg and I is a wonderful, fun Family Breakfast restaurant in Hamilton. My Family and Friends enjoy the price, portion and the atmosphere.
I have been going to the Egg and I at least once or twice a month for over fifteen years. Sometimes the meal was ok and other times it was great, tonight December 20, 2012 the meal was not fit to give to my cat. We arrived at exactly 6: pm, and a very bubbly waitress named promptly took our order. I had a pot of tea which showed up at about 6:07. I drank that and asked for hot water to refill the pot at 6:23 at which time the same bubbly waitress said she had made a mistake with our order which was a bowl of chilli and a banquet burger platter with gravy on the side. After many apologies we finally got our meal at 6:39. The gravy as not on the side as I asked for and was cold so I asked her to take the plate back and correct it which she did. The burger by this time was cold, I went and got my own mustard and relish from the cook and ketchup from another table. The fries were hard and greasy but at least they were hot, the coleslaw looked as though someone had scooped some of the top and of course by this time the tea was again cold. She never came back to see how everything was and we received no compensation for other than several 'I'm sorry, it's my fault". And then on top of that our total bill came to $20.62 cents which is ridiculous for a cold tea, a cold hamburger, cold gravy and a bowl of chilli. And so because of the great service, fantastic meal, low price and being so well compensated for our patience we have decided that was the last time that my friends and I will ever eat at any of your restaurants again.
Good place for a basic breakfast. Nothing fancy. Can get busy on the week ends and you will some times find line up. If you go expecting to find top of the line don't go. If you want basic food at a good price then this is the place.
From the many negative statements about The Egg and I in Ancaster, I am wondering if I was at the same restaurant this morning, but I was! Perhaps it was because I was there at 6:30 a.m., that I found it most enjoyable. It's been years since I was at an Egg and I restaurant, and it wasn't this one. I have nothing to compain about. The service was good, the server was attentive, the breakfast was good. The restaurant was clean, even the red leatherette booths were comfortable. If you haven't been, take a chance and don't listen to all of the negative comments. Judge for yourself
Being retired I go to many area restaurants.. This Egg and I is the one of the worst... *Sausages and eggs...the sausages are dried out and the home fries are tasteless. *Spaghetti and Meat balls. The tomato sauce tastes like it was thickened with flower and water and the meat balls were as hard as concrete. * Soup. The flavor was OK but too salty and at times you could actually feel the grans of salt in your mouth. Haven frequented all three Egg & I's I must say this the consistently awfuller. Many of the waitress will agree and some have told me that they have many times reported such complaints. The best egg & I is on hwy. 6 south of James ST. the difference if food quality is night and day..
Went there for my 1st mother's day. Waited in a lineup out the door in drizzle. Dirty cutlery. Server nowhere to be found. My pancakes were cold - which I discovered AFTER I applied the syrup. When I called a random staffer over (no server to be found), they returned my pancakes - MICROWAVED with the syrup on it and bites taken out of it!!!!! You can't eat microwaved syrup, by the way. Lesson learned. They handed out carnations to every table with women at it, except mine!!!!!!
I was a regular at this place for years but recently, it's majorly going down hill. The service, the food, the decor...everything. My food was cold, my homefries were damp & mush for some unknown reason, and my bacon was so over cooked that they were black! One would complain to the waitress but you think she ever came back to our table??? Nooooo! We had to ask the cashier for our bill. NEVER going back again!
Place was dirty(especially the washrooms).the food was dreadful-bacon not cooked ,egg whites runny,"cheese" omelette had slice of processed cheese inside with another thrown on top.How do Hamiltonians regularly vote the eggs and I as their favorite breakfast restaurants?also the service was slow and inattentive.
Definately will not go back. The place has changed over the last few years. It seems that the managers at the location that I ate at did not treat their co-workers with respect. The service was horible and the food was lackluster. I will not be returning there!
I love going out for breakfast, so naturally when friends from out east came to visit, i had to take them to The Egg and I. Great food, and a lot of it, great prices, and good service. However, slowly over the last year this place is changed. Not the food or the service, the general atomoshpere. When you have an open kitchen the kitchen staff needs to understand customers can hear them and when they are harassing the wait staff to pick up food and arguing with vulgar language it turns customers off completely. Who ever owns this place needs to get that kitchen in shape before they loose all their customers. Watching they way some of the kitchen staff talks to the waitresses, makes me think if the treat their coworkers like that, how are they treating my food. I will not be back to this location, I"ll try the other ones, but for such a great place it's such a shame
We have tried many places for breakfast and the Egg & I is by far the worst of them all. Almost every time we have to send the eggs back to get them 'cooked' and the potatoes are like warmed up boiled potatoes... not fried. Would highly advise going anywhere else.
Although there was a 20 minute wait which is an obviously indicator that the restaurant is popular(for good reason), we were able to by-pass the line by taking stool seating at the bar(which was great). The service was top notch and the food delivered quickly and hot off the grill. The bacon and egg breakfast, omellette, and sandwich we had were all delicious. We will definitely be back when we are in the Ancaster area again.
I eat at the Egg and I all the time! They not only have great breakfast but great lunch and dinner too! My favourite is the Greek Chicken Salad! All my friends have their own favourites that they always order off the menu. The price is very reasonalbe and you get very large portions! I recomend it to anyone!
THIS PLACE IS GREAT! EVERY TIME I VISIT ANCASTER I MAKE IT A POINT TO STOP AND EAT HERE. THE GREEK OMELETTE WITH HOME FRIES THAT I HAD WAS AWSOME! THEY MUST HAVE USED AT LEAAST 3-4 EGGS AND LOADED IT WITH ONIONS, FETA AND MEATS-YUM! I HAD TO ORDER AN ADDITIONAL HOME FRIES PLATE FOR DESSERT! WHEN YOU ARE IN THE AREA, STOP IN, THERE IS USUALLY A BIT OF A LINE UP BUT THE FOOD IS WORTH IT. THE SERVICE IS VERY GOOD, STAFF FREINDLY (AND AT TIMES VERY, VERY BUSY!) FOOD IS FRESH AND VERY TASTY.
I am from the States, BUt my brother goes to college in Ancaster. We go to the Egg and I almost every day for breakfast when I go up to visit him. I love this restaurant. Their coffee is the best I have ever tasted and the food is amazing. Portions are more then sufficient. I would recomend it to everyone.
The people serving us were personal an human. They didn't bug us but didn't gnore us either. They were bery much in touch with our needs as eaters in the establishment.
Best breakfast I have ever had!!! My whole pary would agree!
I always demand to come here! The food is usually fantastic even though it gets busy on the weekends. I wouldn't reccomend it for dinner but it has the best breakfast in Ancaster.
