Meet the owner

The name Nineteen Ten Home Boutique doesn't refer to the era of décor co-owners Amy Russell and Jennifer Kiel focus on (at all!), nor is it a quirky play on the store's address. Rather, it references the year Coco Chanel opened her first venture. “Chanel created a market for her product, she went out on a limb, no one wanted clothing made out of jersey fabric,” explains Amy, “and we identify with that on many levels.”

Nineteen Ten, which opened in 2012, is stocked with goods Amy and Jennifer describe as “modern rustic” for everyone from kids on up. They focus on home décor, gifts, stationery and lighting — think woollen throw pillows emblazoned with antlers, the Queen's profile and bears; scented soy candles; canisters and jars; and heaps more. They also collaborate with designers such as Bare Knitwear, who created knitted blankets exclusively for Nineteen Ten. And they design their own glass terrariums, which a local stained glass maker turns into reality.
