Food was fast, tasty and memorable
Fantastic food and service. Setting is classy. Prices are fare. Very good service.
Went for the first time yesterday. Saw its name in the entertainment book, so thought to give it a try (up to $17 off on entrees with the coupon book). Overall food and atmosphere is fine, but I had a very poor experience regarding their practices. When we ordered, we specifically took the entertainment book out and asked the server to confirm whether we can use it. The server just replied that they do not need to see the coupon until paying for the bill. We ordered an appetizer and 2 pasta specials. At the end of the evening when we tried to pay, we were surprised that the pasta was exempt from the use of the entertainment book discount. We reasoned with them and said we already tried to ask the server at order time and the server clearly knew that we intended to use the coupon, but they didn't care and said all specials are not included. We paid in full and left angry. The next day I was still angry and wrote to the restaurant asking for a $17 refund. They apologized and said they told the server to make it more clear which items are included and which not. But after several exchanges, they just would not refund the $17 and even pointed out the small words on the menu stating specials cannot be combined with any other promotions. This is pretty ridiculous. The customer needs to rely on reading this themselves, and they will not tell you even if you ask! I will never go back to this restaurant again. All you who have entertainment books, be very careful.

Al Porto’s cobblestone floor, white tablecloths, and large Italian wall murals help create the welcoming feeling of a traditional trattoria. The food menu is also traditionally Italian, and extensive. Flavourful and delicious, their gnocchi quattro fromagio is definitely worth a try. Tiny potato dumplings are tossed with pancetta, Gorgonzola, grana padano and fior di late and drenched in a rich herb cream sauce. The Gastown restaurant is open seven days a week until 10:30pm and they also offer take out if you’d prefer to take your dishes to go.

This is my go-to recommendation for a date night; you’ll love the romantic setting, extensive wine list and creamy four-cheese gnocchi. Ohhhh, the gnocchi!
