Come savor an appetizing meal at Mayflower Restaurant. They are open after-hours from Tuesday to Sunday. You can get there by public transit. The neighboring area is memorable for its parks and stores.
Delicious food. Fresh. Good number of choices. Food prepared and put in buffet as needed. Vegetables crisp. Calamari different from other calimari I have eaten and very good. Good variety on the menu as well. Price very reasonable. .
This place was recommended to me by a friend who claims it is the best Chinese in Nanaimo. The food was pretty good, not fantastic.
The rather unfriendly waitress huffed at me as I reminded her that I had ordered 3 DIET cokes as she brought us our CANS of pop. She was just as unfriendly when removing the dishes from the table, plus you have to go ask for a bill, they don't bring you one.
As for the pricing, it would be fair of them to consisder having a "junior" buffet price. Our 3 year old ate about three tablespoons of noodles, three pieces of pork and a jello dessert, for which they charged us full price.
The atmosphere is just like most Chinese restaurants, vertually non-existent. No table appeal, mismatched dishes, dirty condiments.
NOT GOING AGAIN.
Forget the other Chinese food places in town. The Mayflower is the best. I never go anywhere else and I'll drive out of my area to get it. It costs about $45 to feed 4 people. We get 5 dishes for that or you can order their group packages for a little cheaper.

Have heard abou his place for years, was scared off by the apperance.I was surprised once I was inside, it's quite nice. The buffet was not huge,but had all the favoites, and was very good.Will definetly go again....soon.

Great Chinese food. Best in Nanaimo. A very good deal on take out dishes as well. Friendly staff, great food and at a convenient location with lots of parking. We frequently stop by this restaurant for take out on our way home from work.
Best Chinese we have had in Nanaimo. We would have never even given this place a second look if it had not been refered. Looks a little daunting from the outside but once you go in and eat the food will keep you coming back for more. Not a huge spread as far as food choice but very consistent and extremely delicious. Enough to satisfy any hungry tummy. Take out is also offered and the dishes taste the same as if eating in and a good portion size... which in my opinion is rare.
