True to its namesake, this Asian fusion diner serves primarily vegetarian dishes: almost everything on the menu is made veggies first. Planning a double date? Large round tables, combo meals and platters make Buddha’s Veggie a great place to dine family style. Vegetarian options include ginger beef and teriyaki chicken, both expertly disguising meat substitutes as the real deal – it’s so good that even carnivores won’t notice the difference! Other selections include classic Chinese appetizers, hot stir-fries and fried rice dishes.
Buddha’s Veggie is one of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in Calgary. It’s well known for its vegetarian versions of popular Chinese dishes, like Kung Pao chicken and sweet and sour pork. Several years ago, the restaurant expanded its menu to include some meats, increasing its total dish selection to over 200! Buddha’s also offers vegetarian dim sum on Saturdays and Sundays, making it the perfect place to take friends who are squeamish about chicken feet.
For the vegetarians among us, Thanksgiving is an awfully meaty affair. However, the menu at Buddha’s Veggie, a block north of 58 Street Southwest on Macleod Trail, features a lengthy list of regional Chinese and Asian vegetarian dishes. From Szechuan veggie shrimp and veggie ginger beef to Shanghai noodles with veggie ham, it’s all deliciously meatless. However, if members of your Thanksgiving-averse group simply must have it, an alternate carnivore-friendly menu is available. Open Saturday and Sunday over the Thanksgiving weekend.
