Come savor a yummy meal at Bookers BBQ Grill & Crabshack. They are open late all week. You can get there not only by car and public transit but also by bicycle and visit them in a neighborhood known as stimulating.
Situated downtown in a century-old red-brick warehouse across Riverfront Avenue Southeast from the Bow River, Booker’s BBQ Grill & Crab Shack was created in 1998 at a time when barbecue and casual seafood eateries didn't exist in Calgary. Serving top-quality, Southern-style, smoked barbecue fare and fresh seafood and presenting live local rock ’n’ roll and blues bands plus a savvy selection of bourbon, Booker’s has become a destination spot for good food and a good times.
“Booker’s is a fun place,” says Lance Hurtubise, CEO and president of Vintage Group, which operates a number of city restaurants including Booker's, Redwater Rustic Grille and Vintage Chophouse. “It’s a big party place. It’s party central.”
Booker’s is located just east of downtown in a laidback red-brick warehouse. The signature dessert at this Southern barbecue and seafood joint is cherry cheesecake in a jar. This ample serving is sweet and satisfying, and is available on both the restaurant’s eat-in and take-out menus.
A big plate of barbecue is bound to get a person thirsty, and nothing quenches like a tall glass of sangria. Alongside New Orleans classics like Sazeracs and hurricanes, Bookers mixes up a nice sangria – we’d tell you what’s in it, but the recipe is top secret.
Bursting with good cheer, this redbrick, Southern barbecue warehouse in the East Village is serving an appealing evening meal that centres on its mastery of smoked meat. Start with chicken and gumbo, move on to smoked pork ribs or brisket and end on a sweet-plus-meat note with mini bacon doughnuts. Three courses, $25.
